D-LEAGUE PLAYOFF TIE BREAK PROCEDURES
The following tiebreak procedure will be used to break ties for NBA D-League Playoff eligibility and seeding, as well as for determination of the NBA D-League Regular Season Division Champions (i.e., best overall regular season record in respective division).
Two-way Tie Between Teams - In order to break a tie between two teams, the following criteria will be utilized in order:
  1. Division winner (applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
  2. Better winning percentage in games against each other
  3. Better winning percentage against teams in own division (only if tied teams are in the same division)
  4. Better winning percentage against teams in own conference (only if teams tied are in the same conference)
  5. Better winning percentage against teams in opposite conference (only if teams tied are in different conferences)
  6. Better net result of total points scored less total points allowed against all opponents ("point differential")
  7. Better point differential in games head-to-head
  8. Coin toss
More Than Two Teams Tied - In order to break a tie between more than two teams, the following criteria will be utilized in the order set forth:
  1. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
  2. Better winning percentage in games against each other
  3. Better winning percentage against teams in own division (only if all tied teams are in the same division)
  4. Better winning percentage against teams in own conference (only if all tied teams are in the same conference)
  5. Better net result of total points scored less total points allowed against all opponents ("point differential")
  6. Better point differential in games head-to-head
  7. Coin toss
Two-way Tie Between Teams for Wild Card - In order to break a tie between two teams, the following criteria will be utilized in the order set forth:
  1. Better winning percentage in games against each other.
  2. Better winning percentage against teams in own conference.
  3. Better net result of total points scored less total points allowed against all opponents ("point differential").
  4. Better point differential in games head-to-head.
  5. Coin toss.
More Than Two Teams Tied for Wild Card - In order to break a tie between more than two teams, the following criteria will be utilized in the order set forth:
  1. Better winning percentage in games against each other
  2. Better winning percentage against teams in own conference
  3. Better net result of total points scored less total points allowed against all opponents ("point differential")
  4. Better point differential in games head-to-head
  5. Coin toss
NOTE: As many Teams as possible will be eliminated at each step. As soon as one or more Teams are eliminated at any step, the process must begin again from step 1 in the appropriate category (e.g., if there is a four-team tie and one of the tiebreakers eliminates just one team, the remaining three teams start from step 1 again in the More Than Two Teams Tied tiebreak procedure).
Tiebreak Procedure for Finals Only - The following tiebreak procedure shall be used to break a tie for the purposes of determining home court advantage during the NBA D-League Finals.
  1. Better winning percentage in games against each other.
  2. Better winning percentage against teams in opposite conference.
  3. Coin toss.
