The Houston Rockets won back-to-back championships in 1994 and 1995. The ’94 Finals was a seven-game slugfest that pitted Houston against Patrick Ewing, John Starks, Charles Oakley and the New York Knicks. In the ’95 Finals, the Rockets swept the Orlando Magic 4-0 as Hakeem Olajuwon thoroughly outplayed a young Shaquille O’Neal.
Either season could be deemed the best in history for Houston, but the 1993-94 roster went 58-24 during the regular season, compared to 47-35 the following year.
Of course, the Rockets upgraded the roster in 1994-95 by trading for Clyde Drexler—a Hall of Fame shooting guard.
They may not have won as many games in 1994-95, but the upgrade to Drexler is too much to ignore.
