The Dallas Mavericks had a slew of elite teams throughout the mid- to late-2000s, seeming to peak with the 2006-07 squad that went an astonishing 67-15 during the regular season. Of course, many fans will remember that was the year Dirk Nowitzki won MVP after the Mavs were ousted from the playoffs in the first round against a gritty No. 8 seed: the Golden State Warriors.
Instead, the Mavericks’ best team in history is the 2010-11 squad that won a title. At 57-25, it won 10 fewer games during the regular season when compared with the ’06-’07 team, but check out the starting lineups from each:
2006-07:
Devin Harris, Jason Terry, Josh Howard, Dirk Nowitzki, Erick Dampier
2010-11: Jason Kidd, DeShawn Stevenson/Caron Butler, Shawn Marion, Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler (with Terry as sixth man)
Even if the Mavericks didn’t win rings in 2011 by dispatching the mighty Miami Heat, it’s pretty clear they had a better rotation anyway.
