Is it preemptive to tab the 2014-15 Atlanta Hawks as the best team in franchise history considering that the season isn’t over yet? Perhaps, but Mike Budenholzer’s crew of four All-Stars—Jeff Teague, Paul Millsap, Al Horford and injury-replacement Kyle Korver—in addition to an underrated bench have taken the league by storm .
At the time of writing, ATL sports a 42-10 record (second-best in the NBA). The Hawks also rattled off a franchise-record 19-game winning streak—tied for sixth-best in league history—including the first 17-0 month ever in the NBA.
The 1993-94 Hawks that finished 57-25 could be considered, but they traded franchise icon Dominique Wilkins in February during that season for Danny Manning despite sitting comfortably in first place—a move that continues to be a head-scratcher more than two decades later. The ’94 Hawks lost in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, and the franchise hasn’t reached the Eastern Conference Finals since 1970.
