It’s tough to go wrong when picking the best team in Boston Celtics franchise history, because the organization has had so many elite squads throughout the decades.
The 1985-86 team, however, stands about above the rest.
The Celtics went 67-15 while finishing third in offensive rating (111.8) and first in defensive rating (102.6) during the season in question. Larry Bird won his third consecutive NBA MVP award, Bill Walton won Sixth Man of the Year, and the supporting cast including Dennis Johnson, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale helped guide Boston to a relatively easy championship run. The ’86 Celts only lost three playoff games.
