Detroit has won three NBA championships, most recently in 2004 behind a team effort from Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace and Co. The best Pistons team of all time, however, is the 1988-89 “Bad Boys.”
The relentless, no-holds-barred style of play put forth by Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer, Adrian Dantley and Dennis Rodman lives on in NBA lore. Although they’d win a second straight championship in 1990, their original run in 1989 was more impressive.
Head coach Chuck Daly’s crew finished with a 63-19 record before laying waste to its postseason opponents. Detroit swept the Celtics and Bucks, bested the Bulls in six games, and then dismantled the Lakers with yet another sweep in the NBA Finals.
