Mill Rats Dominate on the Road



(Halifax, NS): The Saint John Mill Rats began their National Basketball League of Canada title quest with a dominating 105-85 win over the Halifax Rainmen at the Metro Centre. The Mill Rats showed deep offensive firepower and an intense defense.Saint John looked very strong out of the gate as they lead 25-17 after the first quarter. In the second quarter the leading bloomed to as much as 19 points before the Rainmen settled and cut the deficit to 56-46 at the half. Anthony Anderson led the Mill Rats with 10 points at the intermission.
Anderson came out blazing in the third quarter, hitting for 13 more. The Mill Rats led at the end of the third 80-67.
In the fourth quarter, with starters on the bench, the Mill Rats went on a 15-8 run and opened a 20-point lead, at 95-75. The Mill Rats kept the gas on the peddle and won going away.
"We have alot to work on and get better at as our group continues to gel, but I'm pleased with the effort that guys gave out there tonight in our first game," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon. "Our goal was to open the season with a win and we came in the Metro Centre and got it done."
Anderson paced Saint John with 23 points, Doug Herring had 14, Ashton Smith & Alex Jackson posted 13 each, Tyrone Levett 12, and Chris Matthews 11. The Mill Rats head to Charlottetown, PEI tomorrow night for another road game against the Island Storm at 7PM AST.
