Bighorns Take Down Knicks

WHITE PLAINS, NY, March 24, 2017 – Hosting the Reno Bighorns (18-28) for the first time ever, the Westchester Knicks (18-28), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, suffered a 118-108 defeat to the Sacramento Kings’ affiliate.
John Jenkins led all scorers in the game with 35 points. In his first game at home since the 2015-16 season, Travis Trice II tallied a double-double of 21 points and 13 assists, a new team individual record in assists this season. Getting his first start of the year, Jaylen Bond finished with a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds, a new personal high. Keith Wright also had a double-double, dropping in 10 points with 13 rebounds. Kevin Capers provided 15 points off the bench, with three steals.
Reno was led by Will Davis and his 23 points off the bench, while all five starters for the Bighorns managed to score in double-digits. Guard Kendall Marshall recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 assists. Forwards Reggie Hearn and Isaiah Cousins scored 20 and 10 points respectively, both with seven rebounds. David Stockton earned 17 points and seven assists.
Travis Trice II smoothly delivered the game’s opening basket for Westchester. Reno immediately answered back, and so began a hyper-competitive opening quarter. Both teams managed six ties in the first. The Knicks went down for the first time at the 8:37 minute mark, and Reno managed to exit the opening quarter with the lead. The Bighorns’ pressure continued in the second quarter as Westchester never reclaimed a lead. The Knicks went down by as many as 13 points, but cut the deficit to four at the 2:34 mark. Mirroring the end of the first quarter, Reno offered firm resistance in the final two minutes of the half and entered halftime with a 10-point lead.
The Knicks had its work cut out for them as the third quarter began. After continuing to chip away at the lead, Westchester found themselves within one after a Jaylen Bond layup at the 5:24 minute mark. Unfazed, Reno immediately went on a run that protected its lead for the remainder of the quarter. The 18-point deficit heading into the final quarter did not sit well with Knicks guard Kevin Capers. He exploded as the fourth began, knocking down back-to-back three-pointers. After his spark, the Knicks managed to get it to within 10, but Reno responded and remained in control of its well established lead. After some last minute heroics by Travis Trice II, the Bighorns had secured a hard fought win at the Westchester County Center.
